Red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier, 1790) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is also known as the Asian palm weevil or Sago palm weevil, is distributed throughout regions with palm. This species, like other beetles has a complete metamorphosis; however, this particular species is much larger than the African palm weevil. This species is also mass-produced and harvested as food. The life cycle for this species can take as long as two months depending on environmental conditions.
